In line with the University’s Vision for this academic year: "Innovation, Product Development and Nation Building," the Department of Civil Engineering, recently held her maiden edition of Poster Presentation/Competition at the lounge of the Civil Engineering building. The aim was to showcase the projects undertaken by the final year students of the Department.

During the poster session, faculty, staff and students from all levels of Civil Engineering (100 to 500 Levels) as well as other departments in the College of Engineering were present. Attendees were able to walk around and look for projects they found interesting.

Brief presentation was on each poster by the respective students. The judges based their judgments/award decisions on the discussions, contents, presentations and impressions about the quality of research work on the poster presentations.

Explaining the purpose of the competition, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr. David O. Olukanni, said that the Department is the first at Covenant University to come up with this novel idea that gives students the platform and encourages them to showcase what they (final year students) have been working on since the beginning of the academic session.

Dr. Olukanni, added that many top ranked universities in the world participate in symposiums like this to showcase what the students are doing and the Department of Civil Engineering is taking the lead in this direction, in furtherance of the efforts of Covenant University towards being ranked among the top 10 in the world.

According to Dr. Olukanni, “The Department looks forward to a greater experience in the next academic session, which will also include the postgraduate students.”

The students, who emerged the winner, first runner-up, and second runner-up, were rewarded with cash prizes. Every other participant in the poster session was presented with a certificate of participation at the end of the session.

Present at the event were members of faculty and staff of the College of Engineering.
