CODET Seeks Contribution to National Development

The Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET) has revealed its plan to leverage on engineering partnerships so as to drive change in the society.

Chairman of CODET and Vice President, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. (Professor) Emmanuel Ajav, made the disclosure at the 19th Biannual Meeting of the Committee held on Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Senate Chambers of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.

Engr. Ajav, who appreciated the CU Management for accepting to host the event and for the huge hospitality accorded him and his team, averred that “engineering is the bedrock of development”.

While flagging off the well-attended event, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor AAA. Atayero, welcomed the participants on behalf of the Chairman, Board of Regents of the University, Dr. David Oyedepo.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his delight in having the privilege to welcome the Engineers to Covenant University, and he introduced Covenant University as an institution committed to raising a new generation of leaders. “We thought, since the bane of the African society is a problem of leadership, we came up with the idea of establishing an institution that will restore the leadership heritage of the African Continent,” he explained.

While speaking on the University’s focus on ‘Glocalisation,’ which he defined as solving societal problems with local resources, Professor Atayero pointed out that the University values excellence and the fact that Engineering programmes were among the very first to be established by the University shows how committed the University is to excellence.

He urged participants at the CODET meeting to uphold the virtue of integrity in their work, stating that, “One of the core values of Covenant University is integrity and so, I believe no one can succeed as an Engineer without the virtue of integrity. We will make sure we bring back pride to the profession”.

In his remarks, the Dean, College of Engineering, Covenant University, Professor Christian Bolu, expressed his delight to have CODET hosted in Covenant University. “It is a great delight to work with them. We have been rubbing minds and our desire is to work with CODET and find ways to move the country forward,” he enthused.
