Summary of Profile
Oluwatobi is an emerging global thought leader in global health governance and diplomacy. She is
currently an academic in the department of Political Science and International Relations, Covenant
University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. The same department where she obtained a First class for her
first degree and was awarded the best graduating student in 2009. There, she teaches courses bordering
on African Development and Diplomacy. For her PhD, Oluwatobi conducted a retrospective study on
the 2014 EVD outbreak and the regional response that followed the outbreak. She advocates for a
robust and comprehensive health governance structure at the sub-regional level that would inspire a
resilient and efficient health system in all of Africa. Oluwatobi exhibits a high level of versatility in
her research. She has successfully navigated interdisciplinary boundaries and published on a variety of
issues across the border of mainstream International Relations. For instance, she has conducted
research works on ICT and Social Media use in politics. Her undergraduate research was focused on
the international media and the coverage of African affairs, where she explored the agenda setting
theory and its application in the way the international news media covers and frames issues in Africa.
For her Master’s dissertation, she explored social media use and the Arab Spring, specifically the
Egyptian Revolution. Currently, she is involved in several collaborative studies on COVID-19
exploring such subjects as social media use, transparency and accountability, public image of the
outbreak as well as the perception of disease susceptibility and disease severity. Her vision is to see a
truly global health system that is resilient and strengthened. She is also passionate about putting the
global health issues on the front burner of international Relations and Development discourse.
