Vice Chancellor Urges Staff to Renew Commitment to Duty
The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor AAA. Atayero, has encouraged members of faculty and staff of the University to renew their commitment to their respective duties as they resume for the 2017/2018 Academic Session.
Professor Atayero, who gave the charge on Monday, August 21, 2017, at the Staff Opening Assembly to herald the new academic session, noted that while some parts of the world had been plagued by crises, like the white supremacy uprising in the United States, the humanitarian crisis in Sierra Leone and the terrorist act in Spain, “our case at Covenant University is different”.
He enjoined faculty and staff to seize the opportunity of the peaceful ambience of the University to perform the extraordinary, such that would impact positively on the University’s vision of becoming one of the top 10 universities in the world by the year 2022.
The Vice-Chancellor announced that since the end of the last academic session, the University had been blessed by God with three new awards. These included the Global Award for Perfection, Quality and Academic Performance, and the Excellence in Education award as the Best Private University by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He also revealed that an award, “Excellence in Leadership”, would be conferred on him very soon by the African Entrepreneur Foundation. “This will be your greatest session,” he added.
Professor Atayero, who formally announced the return of a former Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Aize Obayan, to the University after ending her stewardship at Landmark University where she also served as Vice-Chancellor, regretted the demise of her husband, Engr. Tokunbo Obayan.
A minute of silence was observed in honour of the deceased, after which the Vice-Chancellor prayed to God for the repose of his soul and for the comfort of the family who mourn the tragic loss.
Earlier in his remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, who welcomed everyone to the start of the new academic session, said that the University was few years to the actualization of the Vision 10:2022 and prayed that the Lord who started it will finish it for the University.
The Chaplain, Pastor Promise Omidiora, who gave charge on behalf of the Chancellor and Chairman Board of Regents, Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, prayed for peace in the University, supernatural provisions, outstanding exploits by faculty, staff and students, and the realization of the Vision of 1 of 10 in 10.
