Mathematics Department Organises Workshop to Boost Research
In order to boost the research capacity of its staff and the postgraduate students at Covenant University, the Department of Mathematics has organised a “Workshop on the Use of Octave and R.”
While declaring the event open on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, represented by the Head, Department of Mathematics, Dr. Timothy Anake, noted that the workshop was part of capacity building towards the fulfillment of Vision 1 of 10 in 10 and enjoined the participants to pay rapt attention as well as take all that would be done seriously.
He also expressed belief that the workshop would boost the research output of the participants.
Speaking in his capacity as the HOD, Dr. Anake noted that it was the department’s way of contributing to and improve research reporting in the University. He added that the instructor, Dr. Christopher Thron, from Texas A&M University, USA, would take the participants through the use of Octave and R for five days. This, he believes, would contribute to the research efforts of the participants.
The Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Samuel Wara, represented by the Sub-Dean, Dr. Humphrey Adebayo expressed belief that the workshop and the topic would be helpful for research. The School of Postgraduate Studies, he said, was in support of capacity building and enjoined the participants to take advantage of the whole programme.
The workshop ends on Monday, March 20, 2017.
