Management training: A must for Architecture Students
Students of the Department of Architecture have been advised to acquire knowledge in Management, which was described, as the very heart of the profession, as design skills are not enough to stand out in the economy.
Arc. Arowona Babatunde gave this advice in his presentation, “Emerging Role of the Architect in Contemporary Construction Project” at a Departmental Seminar, attended by both Staff and Student.
Arc. Arowona, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Architecture (MNIA), said that due to the new challenge facing every current and potential employee, project management serves as a tool of change.
He further stressed to the students, “management training is better at a mid carrier after some years of practice, and active participation in schools curriculum is a necessary part of the training.”
Concluding his presentation, he stated that the future remains bright for the architect as a project manager because of the increase in the acquisition of management knowledge.
Known for his vast knowledge in Architect, Prof. Ekundayo Adeyemi urged professional bodies to support the addition of project management in school curriculum, as lot of concentration is currently given to design skills.
In his remarks, the Head of Department, Dr. Eziyi Ibem said, “the importance of this Departmental Seminar is to breach the gap between the classroom and the field and also to interact with seasoned practitioners in the field, giving more exposure to the students.”
