Covenant: Nigeria’s Most Outstanding Higher Institution of the Year 2019
A characteristic of the goldfish is that it has no hiding place. Africa's soar away University, Covenant, has yet again received an accolade for providing cutting edge education. She emerged as the 'Most Outstanding Higher Institution of the Year’ at the 6th Annual Nigeria Entrepreneurs Award.
Themed ‘Building a Prosperous Nation: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as an Economic Force’, the event, according to the organisers, was held to recognise, honour and encourage stakeholders, key players, public and private institutions engaging pragmatic roles in the industry.
Reportedly, the 2019 Nigeria Entrepreneurs Award was quite eventful, memorable and prestigious. Also honoured at the awards was the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu among other dignitaries and organisations. He received the MSME Friendly Governor of the Year Award.
Mr Uwabor Joshua, the Executive Director of the 6th Annual Nigeria Entrepreneur Awards, noted that the recipients were honoured based on merit, excellence and impact in the economic development of Nigeria. He also congratulated the persons, institutions and agencies recognised at the event.
The Most Outstanding Higher Institution of the Year award was received on behalf of Covenant by the University’s Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development Studies (CEDS), Dr. Felicia Olokoyo and the Chairman, Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research (CEPDeR) in Covenant, Professor Evans Osabuohien.
Entrepreneurial Development Studies (EDS) is a custom-built programme in Covenant. The programme is an all semester programme and compulsory for all students of the University irrespective of the student’s chosen field of study. It involves both theory and practical. The operations of the programme are housed in the CEDS.
The main activities of the CEDS are in three broad: Coordinating and teaching the theoretical perspectives on entrepreneurship; Coordination of practical demonstrations in selected Entrepreneurial fields; and Community impact and capacity building initiatives.
