The Ogun State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Hamid Abodunrin, has commended the organizational structure and level of professionalism displayed in the day-to-day running of Covenant University.

Mr. Abodunrin, who led senior divisional heads of the NSCDC State Command on a courtesy call on the University management, said that Covenant was considered a foremost institution in not just Ogun State, but Nigeria at large, and as a result, there was the need for the Corps to see ways of partnering with the University to promote security consciousness.

The Corps State Commandant decried the poor security around the nation, which according to him had necessitated the need to arouse security consciousness among the citizenry, with tertiary institutions becoming the starting point of getting people involved in safeguarding the society.

Mr. Abodunrin said the Corps was ready to partner with the University in addressing security concerns that may arise within the university community. “We are ready to partner with Covenant University and train your security operatives towards better performances in securing the lives and properties of everyone on campus,” he added.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, appreciated the Corps State Commandant’s interest in partnering with Covenant to address security challenges around the University axis, noting that security was the business of everyone.

Professor Atayero welcomed the intention of the Corps to organize training for security operatives of the University for optimum performance in the quest to safeguard the society. The Vice-Chancellor said that with the wealth of experience of Mr. Abodunrin, there was a lot the academia could draw towards advancing the study of peace, security and conflict resolution.

He told the visiting team that with the readiness of the Chair of the University’s Security Committee, Dr. Isaac Odun-Ayo and the Chief Security Officer of Canaanland, Mr. Olayinka Ojimi, a proposal for actualizing the relationship should begin in earnest.
