Top 10 Institutions by number of publications in the Field of Corporate Governance; Distance; Earnings Management

Three publications and 1 citation were all that Covenant University needed to rise above all other universities in the world in the field of Corporate Governance; Distance; Earnings Management, according to recent computations by Elsevier SciVal, the quick and easy access to the research performance of 8500 research institutions and 220 countries worldwide.

In the computations, spanning the period between 2012 and 2017, 15-year-old Covenant was No. 1 in the top 10 table featuring some of the world’s oldest institutions. For instance, the George Washington University, founded in 1821, occupied the No. 2 position and Slovak University of technology, established in 1937, was No. 3.

Two other Nigerian institutions, the University of Benin and University of Lagos were ranked 6th and 8th respectively, while University of Kwazulu Natal, ranked 3rd in Africa by the Times Higher Education, occupied the 7th position.

Covenant University’s faculty also featured prominently among the top 100 authors in the field of Corporate Governance; Distance; Earnings Management, with Dr. Imoleayo Obigbemi Foyeke, ranked 3rd in the world, being the leading author from Covenant. The Department of Accounting faculty, whose research interests include Corporate Governance, Financial Reporting, Cost Accounting, and Management Accounting, had 2 publications.

Next was Dr. Dorcas Adetula, also of the Accounting department. Her 1 publication and 1 h-index earned her the 8th position. Capital Market Research in Accounting; Value Relevance of Accounting Information in Nigerian Stock Market; and Gender Gap: Enrolment and Career Choices of Accounting Students in Nigerian Universities are her research interests.

Dr. Egbide Ben-Caleb, whose research interests feature Budget Management (BM), Performance Management (PM), Strategic Management Accounting (SMA), among others, was No. 14 with 1 publication and equal number of citation and h-index.

Other Covenant faculty on the list of the world’s top 100 authors in this field were Professor Francis Iyoha of the Accounting department, Dr. Obigbemi Imoleayo Ayo, Olusanmi, Olamide Adeola, and Mrs Folashade Owolabi.
