CYCDI Seeks Collaboration with Covenant on Leadership Change in Africa
A Non-Governmental Organisation, Creative Youth Community Development Initiative (CYCDI), has expressed its desire to partner with Covenant on ensuring that leadership changes for the better in Africa in the nearest future.
The Chief Executive Officer/Project Director, CYCDI, Ms. Foluke Michael, made this known recently when she led a team from the organisation to pay a courtesy visit to Covenant. The vision of CYCDI, she said, “basically focuses on children and youth empowerment, which requires anyone who would be involved in it to be proactive and hardworking”.
Ms. Michael stated that her organisation was delighted to approach Covenant for partnership since the University had the same focus of raising leaders that would transform the society. “Our activities,” she said, “are streamlined with the Vision 2030 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tagged, ‘Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’.”
The immediate past Director, Covenant University Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Dr. Stephen Oluwatobi, in his comment, commended the passion with which the presentation was made, stating that it brought a new dimension of the concept of entrepreneurship as a tool for development. He, however, pointed out that Covenant was very much involved in reaching the sustainable development goals and already has some working partnerships in that regard.
In his remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, who said there was need to be very intentional and deliberate in partnership considerations, added that since the goals of the two institutions were mutual, Covenant looked forward to driving same with CYCDI.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, while giving his remarks, expressed admiration for Ms. Michael’s presentation, saying it reminded him of the first time he heard the Covenant University vision from the Chancellor many years ago.
He asked the CYCDI to consider Covenant fully involved in achieving all the goals mentioned in their presentation as they were not far from the tasks the University was currently undertaking. He added that Dr. Oluwatobi would be working with the CYCDI to that effect, by way of developing strategies.
Also present in the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akan Williams and the Director, Financial Services, Mr. Paul Uwajeh
