ARM Investment Team Gives Kudos to Covenant University Management
The Management of Covenant University has been commended for her educational policy put in place to raise a new generation of leaders for the country and the continent
The Managing Director, ARM Properties Business, Mr. Wale Odutola made the commendation while addressing the students at a Career Talk organized by his organization in conjunction with the University on Wednesday, 13th March, 2013 at the University campus.
Mr. Odutola posited that what the University has put in place has broadened the minds of the students and awakened the entrepreneurial spirit in them to become employers of labour and not job seekers.
He made reference to his niece, Miss Oyinda Oyefule, who studied Business Administration and graduated from the University about four years ago, but has carved a niche for herself in the fashion industry.
Mr. Odutola strongly advised the students to imbibe early the culture of investment savings as this in many cases forms the startup capital when going into business.
According to him, when a young entrepreneur ventures into a business or any area of interest, raising capital is always challenging as no bank would give money without any prior savings or collateral. “Thus, the easiest way for young entrepreneurs to raise money is from personal investment savings, family and friends. That way you can gradually build the business and source finances for it,” he advised.
On her part, the Group Head, Human Capital Development of ARM, Mrs. Uche Azubuike said that they were overwhelmed by the level of interaction they had with the students. Azubuike stated further that the students showed great interest by the way they conducted themselves all through the programme.
According to her, “in most of the universities we’ve been to, the students will only come in when the programme is about to start, but at Covenant University the students showed great interest and enthusiasm in what ARM came to do.”
Responding to a question on the level of engagement the students brought to bear, she said it was very encouraging, adding that with the educational environment in Covenant University, Nigeria’s hope of producing great leaders of tomorrow is guaranteed.
Mrs. Azubuike said her organization has chosen to go into career development of undergraduates because it has realized that the best employee is one invested in from an early stage.
She added that when such an individual rises to a senior position, the organization would have successfully engaged someone who would have understood the work ethics and values of the organization.
“Also, of importance is the need to help these smart young people know how to come into a work environment and this ARM has successfully done through its internship programme and career fairs over the years,” she explained.
She further enumerated the benefits students would gain from the project. These include, helping students know how to choose and make the most of their chosen career paths, how to attend interviews; how to write CV’s that are sellable; and how to behave in a work environment.
Mrs. Azubuike informed the students that the event would be an annual programme for ARM and that the organization would institute an award for the best graduating student in a programme to be decided later.
The team had earlier paid a courtesy call on the University Management. While receiving the team on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Korede Ayo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Dr. Taiwo Abioye, appreciated the effort and interest of ARM Group in Covenant University.
According to her, the choice of Covenant University out of many other private universities is a pointer to their interest in the quality of Covenant University students.
She stated also that the partnership was the beginning of greater things to come between the two institutions.
