ARCON Compliance Team Heaps Plaudits on Covenant’s Architecture Programme

A team from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), recently on a compliance visit to the Department of Architecture, Covenant University, has lauded the quality of academic and infrastructural resources in the department, and commended the University management for the huge investment in the programme.

The immediate past President of the Nigerian Institute of Architect (NIA), and current member of the policy making body of the Institute, Architect Adibe Njoku, who led a 4-man ARCON team on the exercise, noted that the team was on a mission to make positive suggestions that would help reposition the department to meet the needs of the present time.

“Overall, we are quite impressed with the level of facilities and orderliness in place in the department, but there is always room for improvement,” he stated.

Architect Njoku noted that the programme was all about preparing the students for the realities and demands of the world of work. He was glad that from the interaction the team had with students in the department, it showed they were really in tune with what it takes to become a professional architect in a fast-moving society.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, told the team that Covenant was eternally committed to professional best practices across all fields of study, and the University management would continue to work assiduously to ensure that every programme aligns with the demands of every academic and professional regulatory bodies in the nation.

Professor Atayero noted that one thing synonymous with the organizational structure of Covenant was that the University’s staff-student ratio was always among one of the best in the world, and as such Covenant would not allow the high standard to be compromised.

The three-day compliance visit was a robust and intense scrutiny of the Department of Architecture’s academic and infrastructural resources, with verification visits to the departmental and university libraries, and drawing studios in the students’ halls of residence. The visit was rounded off with engaging sessions between the ARCON team and faculty and students in the department.
